Home School Community Liaison

Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

Viv is the full-time Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator in our school. Viv has been a teacher in the school for the past fourteen years and is now working in this position. Her role is to link in, visit parents, provide information, act as a support to parents and organise parent classes.

The HSCL works closely with the Parent Council and co-ordinates parent events in the school, such as the Family Fun Night, Community Week etc and parental involvement in the classes.  Do not panic if she arrives at your door or calls you. She will simply be linking in to see how your child is getting on!

The Role of Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator includes:

  • Visiting parents/guardians in their homes
  • Organising courses, talks or meetings for parents/guardians in the school
  • Involving parents/guardians in their children’s education;
  • Encouraging closer ties between teachers, schools and the parents/guardians
  • Encouraging parents/guardians to participate in classroom projects with teachers, such as Shared Reading/Literacy Programmes, Maths for Fun and Science for Fun.

In the past, a number of events were organised for parents including Yoga, parent reading groups, the Belmayne Walking Group, Flower Arranging, Jewellery Class and many more. Classes usually take place during the day and some occur at night but different initiatives such as Internet Safety Talks and classes relating to helping your child at home often take place in the evening also.

Parental/Guardian Involvement is a huge part of school life in Belmayne. Research has shown that parental involvement in children’s education has very positive effects, not only for the child but for the parent also. Many of the different initiatives have a social element also, where parents get to know each other and develop friendships.
