Parental Involvement

Parental Involvement

We believe that parents, the school and the community working together enhances the education of our students and are vital to daily life in our school.  All educational research shows that where parents and the school work together there is a direct correlation on how successful a child performs socially and academically in school.

We welcome parental involvement in policy formation, fundraising, general ideas and groups in the school such as the Percent for Art Committee, School Garden Committee and the AGM.

The Parent Council

Lisa Murray is the current Chairperson of our very active PC. The Council changes annually. We would like to have parents from across the school involved in order to give a broader input into school life. The PC’s role is a supportive role to the staff and children. Also to respect the professional role of the teaching staff and management.

The Parent Council meet approximately once a month and work on supporting the school through fundraising, giving input towards policy formation, organising events and sharing ideas on how best they can support the school. New faces and ideas are always welcome. If you would like to contact the Parent Council, email belmayneetpc@gmail.com

Class Reps

As part of a Parent Council initiative, in response to parent feedback a class rep system has been introduced for each class. The role of the rep is to be a point of contact for any parents in a particular class. They will pass on any information they receive from the school, parent council and teachers to their parents either text on WhatsApp. This has worked extremely well in the past year and is an invaluable link to both parents and teachers.

We understand that many parents work but hopefully you will still have the opportunity to support us during the year, to ensure the children have access to as many experiences as possible.  Examples of the types of events that may occur during the year where you can become involved are:

Sports Blitz, International Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Science Day, Science Competitions, STEM Week, Art and Craft Day, Winter Plays, Sports Day, Nature Week, Community Week School Assembly, Class Inputs regarding your Beliefs/Job/Hobby etc. Parent’s Council, Film Night, School Disco, Family Fun Night etc.

We also try to get parents to take part in fun classroom activities such as Maths 4 Fun and Paired Reading. This gives parents a chance to spend time with their children in the classroom. For us to continue these great in class initiatives, we need parents to go through the Garda Vetting process. Please contact the school Home School Community Liaison at viv.gaynor@belmayne-etns.ie  for more information.
