‘From little seeds, big oak trees grow.’
Belmayne Educate Together N.S. first opened its doors in September 2008. Thanks to the efforts of our parent start up group we managed to acquire a site for a temporary building on the banks of the Mayne River in Belmayne. The school began with two permanent staff members our Principal Sinead Ní Mheara and our Deputy Principal Fiona Ní Ghloinn.
In year 2 we were joined by Joe Kavanagh, Gearóid Ó Flathartha and Viv Gaynor. Whenever possible we would begin the morning with a few tunes. It wasn’t unusual to hear ‘Pete Seeger’ songs coming from the yard at line up time in the morning, just to kick start the day. As the school grew this wasn’t always possible but we have endeavoured to keep that nurturing small school feel as much as the school has grown.
We currently have an enrolment of almost 450 children in classes from Junior Infants – 6th Class.
‘As the saying goes, we’ve come a long way!’
